Greece, 29.Sep.2025, Monday

Today was a travel day. We thought we were going to do some walking early, but it was a rainy day and instead, we all went to a cell phone case store the Eli C had found and we all got either cases, or the protector glass on the front, a watch band. Who knew we all were hoping to do such a thing?

We then came back to the hotel, packed up our things and left to fly to Chania. I’ve finally learned that it’s pronounced with a soft sound, not a ch, not a h, but something in between. There was a bit of a delay, but the woman at the hotel told us we were lucky that was only 30 min, it’s been regularly running 2 hours behind. And we did feel lucky!

We’re at the Monastery Hotel in the old town, so we can walk everywhere and we did. First, we went to dinner at a place Eli C had found online which was really fun because the wait staff were all so nice, funny, and we had a great meal.

We then wandered, exploring a bit. I think this is a perfectly wonderful ancient town. It’s Minoan, Mycenaean, Byzantine, Venetian, Ottoman, Greek, layers upon layers of history and houses on top of houses. Archeological ruins are everywhere. If someone wants to build in the old town, they have to excavate, protect with clear floors and then build above. I can’t imagine and our hotel is one of those. Amazing.

So this first evening, we just wandered, exploring the harbor and looking forward to the next few days of being here and there and learning.
